How Vendure Platform licensing works

Vendure Platform checks its license with Vendure Console. The License Guard plugin does this inside your Vendure server and worker. It uses the environment credential that you issue on the Installations page of your Project.

The short version

• Development is unlimited. A Project can have any number of development credentials, and each one can run on any number of machines.
• Production is one installation per Project. One production credential licenses one installation. An installation is one Vendure database.
• Scale out freely. Any number of server and worker containers on that one database count as one installation.
• The heartbeat runs hourly. The worker reports to Console once an hour. Each process also checks the license locally every five minutes.
• Production survives Console outages. A production installation keeps running for seven days after its last successful check with Console.
• A network problem does not stop a running production server within those seven days. An explicit refusal from Console stops it only when a second check 15 to 20 minutes later confirms it. What stops an installation lists every cause.
