The heartbeat is a scheduled task in the Vendure worker. Once an hour, it tells Console that the installation still runs. Console answers with a new installation token, and License Guard stores it in the database.
When. Once an hour, at a fixed minute for each installation. The minute comes from the credential, so all replicas of one installation use the same minute.
Where. In a worker process. Vendure runs scheduled tasks only when a scheduler plugin, for example DefaultSchedulerPlugin, is configured and at least one worker runs.
Daily renewal. Once a day, the heartbeat also gets a new signed license from Console and stores it for the next offline start. The running process keeps the license that it verified at startup. A plan change therefore takes effect at the next restart.
Downgrade checks. When a downgrade is scheduled, Console asks for the downgrade checks in the heartbeat answer. See Change or cancel a plan.
Version report. Once a day, the installation reports its Node.js, Vendure Framework, and Vendure Platform versions. Console shows them on the Installations page. This report never changes the license.
