The Product Types plugin adds a visibility, grouping, and validation overlay on top of Vendure's existing custom fields. Vendure's custom fields are global — every product gets the same set regardless of what it is. For catalogs with diverse categories (apparel, electronics, digital goods), that produces product forms with dozens of irrelevant fields. A Product Type lets you define, per kind of product, which custom fields show (Product and Variant level), how they are grouped and ordered, and which are required.
Products with no type assigned keep the default behavior (all custom fields shown).
